thevoynich.org sets no cookies, runs no analytics, shows no advertising and has no accounts or forms. Your browser does contact one outside company when it opens most of these pages, Google, to fetch typefaces. Nothing on the site stores anything in your browser. A link you copy from the research board or the manuscript image viewer carries that view, marks and notes included, in the part of the address after the # sign, which your browser never sends to a server. This page says exactly what, and what the lab does not receive.
Honeycutt Ai Labs, Princeton, Texas, runs thevoynich.org as a public research record of Beinecke MS 408, the Voynich Manuscript.
For a privacy question or a correction request, write to hello@honeycuttailabs.com. Email is handled as ordinary correspondence and is not added to any list.
The site is a set of plain files stored on Amazon S3 and delivered through Amazon CloudFront. No program of ours runs when you read a page.
Honeycutt Ai Labs has not turned on access logging for the site’s storage or its CloudFront distribution, so the lab keeps no record of who visited or what they opened. Amazon, which hosts the files, receives each request as any web host does, including your network address and browser details, and handles it under its own terms and may keep its own operational records.
The site sets no cookies and loads no analytics, advertising, tracking or social-media scripts.
There is no sign-in, no comment box and no form on any page. The Contribute page says submissions are not open and collects nothing. The search and filter boxes on the research board and the community page, and the marks and notes you make on the research board or in the manuscript image viewer, work inside your browser on files the site has already sent you; what you type or draw is not sent anywhere.
The reading pages load their typefaces from Google Fonts, so your browser sends a request to Google when a page opens.
| Address | What it is | Which pages |
|---|---|---|
| thevoynich.org | This site, through Amazon CloudFront: pages, styles, scripts, data and manuscript images | Every page |
| fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com | Google Fonts: the EB Garamond, Cormorant Garamond and JetBrains Mono typefaces | The overview, manuscript, findings, comparators, sources, community, spine reference and research board pages, the Coviewer introduction page (/coviewer), and this page. Not the Contribute page or the manuscript image viewer itself (/viewer/). |
Each request to Google reveals your network address and browser details to Google, the way any typeface hosted by a third party does. The lab does not receive or store that information, and Google’s own terms govern what Google does with it. Links to libraries and other sites in the Sources and Comparators pages contact those sites only if you click them.
Nothing. The reading pages, the research board and the manuscript image viewer store nothing in your browser.
The research board at /dashboard and the viewer at /viewer/ keep the view you build, folios, zoom, marks and notes, in the page itself while it is open. “Copy link to this view” puts that state in the part of the address after the # sign; your browser never sends that part to any server, so the lab cannot see it, and anyone you send the link to sees the same view. “Save notes” writes the same state to a file on your device, in the place you choose. Nothing is written to cookies, local storage or any other browser store, and no connection is opened to any sharing service. Before 2026-09-30 the viewer kept a random identifier in local storage under the key coview_session_id; the current viewer neither reads nor creates it. If your browser still holds one from an earlier visit, clearing this site’s data removes it.
If the site adds anything that touches your browser beyond what is described here, this page will be updated first, with a new effective date.
Effective 2026-09-30. The 2026-09-29 notice described a viewer identifier that the current viewer no longer creates.
